“NINEMA” BY VRENIKA PATHER ESSAY.

A SILENT SONG AND OTHER STORIES ESSAY AND STORY SUMMARY.

 “NINEMA” BY VRENIKA PATHER ESSAY.

Basing your argument on “Ninema” by Vrenika Pather, write an essay to support the claim that those who possess admirable qualities normally succeed in their endeavors.             (20Marks)

In life, good character paves the path to a flourishing business. This brings goodwill, improves trust and makes an individual admirable in the eyes of the public.

Ninema manages her time well and does her business in a neat and organized manner. She wakes up at four to begin her work as a market gardener. She places the dhania and mint neatly in her basket. She sets up her stall then arranges the herbs appetizingly. The other lady workers setting up their stalls chat with her and each other amiably as they work. Ninema rarely chats back. She has no time to waste, but nobody minds this because they know her. It is because of her nature that Mrs. Singh desires to interact with Ninema for as long as possible. There are people who like her business and support her, but there were others who did not like that she was not chatty. However, the truth was that they did not like her because she was her own person. She did not give in to what other people expected of her. This both frightened and thrilled people. The ladies in the other stalls were particularly fond of her because of this. When they watched how she carried herself, they looked up to her. She was one of them, but something about her was different. This difference did not repulse them; it drew them to her, because they wanted to learn her secret. Her dexterity is also seen when a vulgar brute confronts her. She removes her basket from her head slowly and places it on the ground with deliberate care. Although the unfortunate man annoys her, she collects herself and acts in a careful manner lest she leave her vegetables strewn on the ground. Even at lunch time, Ninema does not waste time, she eats her sandwich as she works. This is because her stall is busy serving her steady flow of customers. Most customers are attracted by the smell and look of her stall. Eventually, her business flourishes because of her virtues.

Ninema is a woman who knows how to masterly handle troublesome clients and still efficiently deliver excellent services to them. This is evident when Mrs. Singh, a rich old woman who always haggled over prices comes to her stall. Even though she was loyal to Ninema, her difficult nature made her troublesome. She begins her conversation by asking about the price of three bunches of parsley. When told it is six cents, she complains that it is too much. Mrs. Singh then waits for Ninema to lower the price, but she does not. Neither for Mrs. Singh nor any other customer. Ninema’s skill works for her because Mrs. Singh bargains only out of boredom, not that she lacks the money. She just wants a long market day so she does not have to go home to a large house full of servants to do everything. This way she could interact with Ninema for as long as possible. All this happens because Ninema is a pleasant and neat trader who handles the customers with skill. She therefore succeeds in retaining a number of clients.

Running a business with an iron first, respect and outright appreciation are qualities that undoubtedly bring immense success. Ninema adopts these virtues and this puts her at offence with some people while also garnering customers who liked her manner of doing business and thus supported her. These include Chinran, who is often her first customer. He was the first to support her when she first opens her stall. Even though some ladies teased her that she was in love with the lawyer, she courteously smiled their silliness away. She did not encourage his infatuation and treated him as she did all her customers, with respect and appreciation. She knows that a relationship between him and her is impossible because they belong to different castes. She respects and accepts the order in the society. When the last minute shopper drops by, Ninema gives her an extra bunch of mint for free. She believes that the last customer is usually very important because she closes the business day. Even though other people did not like that Ninema was her own person, she did not give in to what other people expected of her. This frightened some as much as it thrilled others. When other women watched how Ninema carried herself, they looked up to her and this drew them to her. This brings success and respect to her, and enables the business to thrive.

Despite drawing a lot of attention, Ninema remains focused and does not take it to heart. Her only concern is earning a living. This masters her focus in making her business to thrive. She is a beautiful woman who makes heads turn when she walks. Her hips sway from side to side as she moves her body in rhythm to balance the basket on her head. Her thin chiffon sari drapes effortlessly around her perfect body, as if kept in place by her high, firm breasts. Her long, toned arms and cinched waist that causes men to stop and stare, turning away in embarrassment when she faces them with her piecing, black eyes. The women also admire her high check bone. Even with all these qualities, Ninema remains focused on her business and thus she excels.

In conclusion, those who do well always possess behaviors that predispose them to the good that they finally reap. It is such behavior that pits them ahead of their peers.

The above answers can also suffice for the question: Write an essay to show the excellent qualities of Ninema. Or, Write an essay to verify how Ninema’s virtues help her succeed.
