Points of Interpretation for this question:
i. Tayib tries later to change the channel in vain. Contrast this with earlier on when he did it effortlessly thus regret.

ii. Tayyib regreted because he thought he was going mad. No matter how much he tries, all he met was failure because his powers were gone like a dream. This shows his helpless state of regret. Contrast this with the delighted state of mind when he was doing acts of mercy.

iii.Al Mahdi regrets but thus has no effect in rejuvenating his lost glory. The joy that he has was replaced by an awesome sadness that would haunt him to his death. Hanniya remarked that he was not in his normal moods.

iv. Tayyib's depthless inner confidence was gone. Pleading became pointless and distress useless. Since he has misused his power by engaging sensually with a beautiful woman, he could not practice his secret power although he really longed to.

   CRITICISM OF MARRIAGE. 'A Silent Song' Nicol satarizes how Ajayi and Ayoo practice selective obedience to Christian principles. Ayo decides that it was not right for a mother of three to wear white during her wedding. This makes the reader wonder if children make parents impure and how mere symbolic colours are more important than actual true dedication to a christian way of life.
